The Fleetham Lodge Experience

Find out about courses at Fleetham lodge

Fleetham Lodge is a family home situated in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire.
The house was built in 1905 replacing an earlier hunting lodge mentioned in documents as far back as the 1600s.
The house sits between the Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and both are in view of the house itself.

This rural setting offers an ideal learning environment where formal lessons can be punctuated by short walks or visits to local areas of interest. Both the Yorkshire Moors and Dales offer natural beauty as well as small quintessentially English villages and historic monuments. (see our blog - Fleetham Life)

The house is situated close to the A1 and within easy access of York, Leeds and Newcastle. Durham-Tees Valley airport is a half hour drive and Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle airports are also easily accessible. There is a regular train service from Northallerton (the nearest town) to London Kings Cross (2.5 hours) and Manchester airport (2 hours). We are also easily accessible by train from Edinburgh.

The house is set in large gardens where you can find a quiet spot to relax or play tennis on the private court.

Kirkby Fleetham

The view across the fields to Kirkby Fleetham village

Kirkby Fleetham, a mile away, is an attractive country village offering a school, pub and small shop.

There are pleasant walks along the lanes or across public footpaths.

The area around Kirkby Fleetham is fairly flat making it excellent for cycling.

Whichever course you choose at Fleetham you will find a warm welcome and good company. The house is spacious enough to accommodate several people without the feeling of being crowded.

Each of the 4 student bedrooms has a double bed and TV and radio.

There are two large bathrooms for the exclusive use of students.

The house is wifi enabled so students can bring laptops if they wish. There is also a study with a computer available for students to use for emailing or internet browsing.

Our small library of language tapes and books can be accessed by students for self study and homework.

Meals are simply prepared from excellent local ingredients. The cuisine is basically traditional English with lots of fresh fruit and organic vegetables. We have our own kitchen garden and keep hens for fresh eggs. (You will often see these wandering around the garden).

Being in the midst of farming country means that we are able to source good, fresh, organic produce.

The nearest towns are Northallerton and Bedale these are small market towns (7 and 4 miles away respectively). Markets are held there weekly. There are 3 buses a day to these towns - the bus stop is a few metres from the lodge.

Both towns have a selection of shops and supermarkets.
