Professional Development Workshops for English Language Teachers

  • Over 30 years training experience

  • English countryside immersion setting

  • Mix of language topics - including: humour, nuance

  • Variety of teaching topics- technology, literature

  • Whole-day Field trip

RLI Language services offers a programme that is second to none fine-tuning your teaching skills, sharing expertise and exploring new and exciting ideas for the EFL classroom.

We work together on improving EFL teaching skills by living and studying together so we can learn from each other's experiences and training. Sessions are led by an experienced teacher-trainer, but this is experiential training.

Everyone will be involved and everyone will have a great time!

There are 2 courses per year for up to 6 teachers, and these are absolutely FREE of charge

Accommodation (full-board) and the one-day literature-related visit is just a £175 per person investment.

Attendance is by application/invitation.

Please email us with your preferred date and information about your teaching, interests, and what you hope gain from the programme.

The Workshop

5 hours of topics for discussion per day (Mon through Fri) split into two sessions

  • The morning session will cover language topics.
  • The afternoon session will cover methodology, latest developments, good practice and other ELT-related teaching issues.

Sessions are interactive and collaborative.

One day is spent on a cultural excursion: This year we are looking at the Brontes. The day includes a visit to Howarth - the former home of the Brontes and now housing the Bronte Museum. If the day is fine we can walk out over the moors to get a feel for the background of their books.

My areas of interest are:

  • Teaching advanced adult students
  • E-learning and M-learning
  • Using technology in the EFL classroom
  • Language for work
  • Using literature in Language teaching
  • Classroom dynamics
  • Keeping students engaged

Other topics are also explored and we welcome your suggestions.

Each workshop accepts up to 6 participants. We try to have a good balance of participants according to age, experience, language level and teaching interests.

We have 3 double bedrooms, one twin and a single room.

All of the sessions are FREE!

The personal investment of £175 covers the accommodation (full-board) and a full-day trip.

Dear Teacher:

I am Berni Wall, your moderator and trainer.

I have 33 years in the EFL Industry mostly teaching adults at University, Further and Higher Education. I also have 6 years of Primary school teaching with responsibility for ESL/EAL, a teacher trainer on Trinity College TESOL courses and an English Language Examiner.

I have also organised corporate language training for large multi-nationals also smaller company training and government agencies.

Currently I organise intensive, immersion programmes here at Fleetham Lodge for small groups of adult students and I also coach IELTS and Business English students online.

In 2006 I created the award-winning E-learning site Gapfillers (www.gapfillers.co.uk) for Advanced English language learners using authentic materials and web 2.0 tools. We are currently developing modular courses off the site for business clients and IELTS students.
